Laboratory personnel analyze blood, spinal fluid, urine and other body fluids.  They provide clues to the physician and help in detecting, diagnosing and treating disease. Their work helps in the identification of diseases such as AIDS, diabetes, meningitis and cancer .

Laboratory workers solve medical mysteries every day.  They work in a variety of clinical settings such as hospitals, reference laboratories, doctor's offices, forensics and research laboratories.

Laboratory personnel are required to have a degree to perform testing.  Medical Technologists have a bachelors degree in Medical Technology or a life science.  Medical Laboratory Technicians have an associates degree in Medical Technology.
